The dramatic transformation of Cruddas Park in Newcastle-upon-Tyne from five
out-dated high-rise tower blocks into an eye catching development shows the extent to which EWI
can improve the appearance of a building.
In an area
that had been a long-standing priority for regeneration, the dramatic white polar dash render
façades are in striking contrast to the blue detail panels coloured using a special blue
acrylic finish, allowing natural light to illuminate the blocks and creating a crisp render
finish.
The
weber.therm XM EWI system, incorporating 100mm mineral fibre fixed to the substrate with
mechanical screw fixings, reduced the U-value from 1.45W/m²K to 0.29W/m²K, which will help to
improve living standards by increasing thermal efficiency and reducing energy
costs.
What the Judges said…
'The clever use of EWI on these high-rise flats has refined the
proportions of the buildings and the clean, simple design will age gracefully. Cruddas Park is
a shining example of inner city living that is both aesthetically pleasing and thermally
efficient making it an attractive proposition for
residents.'
